  1. Where do I get my soil test?                                                                                            We do not conduct soil tests. However you can obtain them from the UK Cooperative Extension Service on Red Mile Road or through a vendor, such as Southern States.  More information on soil tests can be found by clicking here.
  2. Do you have a copy of the Fayette County Soil Survey?                                                          We currently do not have copies of the soil survey as it is out of print.  However, we can provide you with copies of the individual sheets and soil descriptions. You can also find out the info on the Soil Data Mart.
  3. Can someone come and speak to my classroom or group?                                                                 We are available to speak to your class or group on a variety of subjects.  Please contact us to schedule a topic for your group.
  4. Do you pay for perimeter/exterior/boundary fencing for my farm?                                                        We do not cover this cost share program. Contact Josh Long, Fayette County Agriculture Extension Agent, at 257-5587.
  5. How are you funded?                                                                                                                                  We are funded by a portion of the property taxes of Fayette County residents and from some state funding.
  6. Can you come look at my pond?                                                                                                                  If it regards to fish, wildlife, or aquatic vegetation (cattails, etc) issues, you will need to contact Carey Prather with the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife at 1-800-858-1549 ext 364 or Clay Smitson at 246-2818.  Otherwise, if it is a leaky pond or a need of constructing a new pond, then our office can assist you.
  7. What is a Conservation District?                                                                                                                      Kentucky has 121 local conservation districts, organized under Chapter 262 of Kentucky's Revised Statutes, which have a responsibility to coordinate assistance from all available sources--public, private, local, state and federal in an effort to develop locally driven solutions to natural resource concerns.
  8. How do I become a Conservation District Supervisor?                                                                           If a term has expired, the process, in July, would be to obtain and complete a petition from the county clerk's office, obtain the required minimum of 25 signatures from local registered voters and submit the petition to the county clerk.
  9. What is the difference between the Conservation District & NRCS?                                                The Conservation District is funded local and state government, whereas NRCS is a Federal USDA agency.  Each provide different programs, but we partner together to provide service for the Fayette County agriculture community.
